$107,000 Raised for Lutheran Schools and Scholarships
The St. Louis-based Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA) raised a record $107,000 for Lutheran schools at its 6th Annual "Brew in the Lou" Festival, held Saturday, Oct. 13 at Francis Park in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood.
This year's Brew sold out for the third year in a row. About 2,000 guests enjoyed unlimited tastings of Louis' best beer, wine, spirits, coffee, BBQ and desserts. More than 100 breweries, restaurants and food and craft artisans lined the banks of The Lily Pond, including nearly 45 local and regional craft breweries. 2018 photos here.
Tasters also voted for their favorite brats, home brew and chili recipes. Reinneck Ranch won for Best Bratwurst, Bootleggin' BBQ won the Chili Cookoff and in the ultra-competitive People's Choice Home Brew Competition, Robert "Bob" Olson's Belgian Golden Strong Ale took home the top prize. Results from the sanctioned home brew competition are here.
Entertainment included the Big Boss and the Catfish Blues Band, Johnny Henry Band and the Lutheran South Jazz Band on the First Community Credit Union Mainstage, and music from Brew sponsor Y-98/102.5 KEZK. KPLR/Fox 2's Jeff Bernthal, a Lutheran schools grad, emceed.
Proceeds from "Brew in the Lou" will benefit more than 8,500 children of all faiths at 33 Lutheran schools in the bi-state area. To contribute, visit www.lesastl.org, or call 314-200-0797.
