St. Louis, MO (Oct. 30, 2019) The St. Louis-based Lutheran Elementary School Association raised a record-breaking $120,000 for Lutheran schools at its 7th Annual "Brew in the Lou" Festival, Saturday, Oct. 12 at Francis Park in St. Louis Hills.
More than 1,800 craft beer and food fans sampled specialties from nearly 100 of St. Louis' best beer, wine, spirits, coffee, food and pop-up vendors, including about forty local and regional craft breweries.
Guests also voted for their favorite brats, home brew and chili recipes. This year's Battle of the Bratwurst prize went to Salem Men’s Club, followed by Oakville Butcher Shop and Digregorio’s Market. In the ultra-competitive People's Choice Home Brew Competition, Immanuel Lutheran in Washington won first for Rev. Mark Bangert’s “Belgian Pear Ale." East Side Brewers Club’s Brad Gutierrez and David Page took second for "Ginger Beer" and home brewer Eric Smith "Saison" took third.
The top prize for this year's Chili Cook-Off went to Salem Men’s Club, followed by the Bootleggin’ BBQ and Reinneck Ranch. Brew guest Gina Stueke was the lucky drawing winner of two all-inclusive St. Louis Blues Hockey Club Seats.
The Steve Ewing Band and the Lutheran High School South Jazz Band provided entertainment, and KPLR/Fox 2's Jeff Bernthal, a Lutheran schools grad, emceed. Next year's Brew is set for Sat., Oct. 10, 2020. To see more photos visit on Facebook at @LESABrewintheLou.
