(ST. LOUIS, MO) May 10, 2017 – The St. Louis-based Lutheran Elementary School Association (LESA) raised $201,000 for Lutheran schools and honored the Lutheran Legacy Foundation at its 13th Annual “A Night for Kids" Dinner-Auction, held April 22, 2017, at the Orlando Gardens South.
Proceeds from the event will benefit 9,000 students and 500 faculty members at 31 Lutheran elementary schools and four high schools in the bi-state area.
Fox 2's Andy Banker hosted the evening, which featured the presentation of LESA's 2017 Lutheran Student Christian Leader Award to Sanai Kay Davis, an eighth-grader at River Roads Lutheran School in north St. Louis. The award recognizes Lutheran elementary school students who demonstrate courage, compassion, leadership, academic achievement and a commitment to their community. In addition to the award, honorees receive a $500 scholarship underwritten by the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF).
The theme of this year's event was "Help Build a Legacy for Kids" and included a tribute to the Lutheran Legacy Foundation, recipient of LESA's 2017 Heritage Award for its generous financial support of Lutheran education including a gift to support two of LESA’s Building Blocks Scholarship recipients. To help LESA provide services and programs for the future, the Lutheran Legacy Foundation recently awarded a grant which will provide a 25% match to gifts from donors desiring to establish a named endowment. Thanks to this grant, named endowments may now be created with a $20,000 gift, funded at one time or over a period of four years. To learn more about setting up a named endowment, contact Katherine "Kit" Auble at 314-200-0797 or email@example.com.
"A Night for Kids" is LESA's largest and most important annual fundraiser. Since 2004, it has helped LESA award more than $4.1 million in need-based scholarships to nearly 3,000 children of all faiths in the St. Louis area.
More than 9,000 students attend Lutheran schools in the St. Louis Metro Area, making it the second largest private school system in the Bi-State Region. A Recognized Service Organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, LESA represents 31 elementary and four high schools, including three National Blue Ribbon Schools and three National Lutheran Exemplary Schools.
