Congratulations to Ella Arbeiter, LESA's 2020 Lutheran Student Christian Leader! Ella, an eighth grader at Green Park Lutheran School in south St. Louis County, was nominated by one of her teachers, Mr. Joshua Dixon. The award, now in its 8th year, recognizes Lutheran elementary school students who demonstrate courage, compassion, leadership, academic achievement and a commitment to their community. Ella was selected among nominations from 31 LESA member Lutheran elementary schools in the Bi-State Area.
In his nomination information for Ella, Mr. Dixon shared this: "Ella has always been the first to volunteer, the first to comfort, the first to try new things and the first to jump into action when action is needed. She leads by examples and encourages others to follow her example." Ella and her mother, Emily, recently traveled to Hong Kong, where Ella worked as a volunteer helping students read and speak English. Mr. Dixon says Ella is also an active volunteer at Green Park: "Ella has been instrumental over the past few years in the operation of our yearly food drives and donation drives for missionaries and other church work." In addition to her service and school work, Ella plays basketball for Green Park, runs track and cross country, and swims year-round.
In addition to her award, Ella will receive a $500 cash scholarship from LCEF (Lutheran Church Extension Fund) and recognition at LESA's 16th Annual Cooking for Kids Dinner-Auction, Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Orlando's South, featuring a special menu from Tony Pietoso of Cafe Napoli in Clayton. (Tickets are $75/person, for more information, or to purchase, click here.)
Congratulations to Ella and all of our 2020 nominees - we are so proud of you!
