About Word of Life: Word of Life Lutheran School’s mission is to provide a high-quality educational program where Christ prevails, love and diversity are celebrated, and dignity and respect are valued. WOL began as an association school in 1973 serving students from Preschool – 8th grade. Our program is split amongst three sites as we are supported by the congregations at those locations.
Position Summary: The Assistant Principal will play a vital role in advancing the mission and vision of WOL Lutheran School by overseeing our early childhood classrooms and leading a summer camp program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mission-Driven Leadership & Spiritual Formation – Provide Christ-centered leadership for the Summer Camp and Early Childhood programs, ensuring all programming, staff interactions, and family engagement align with the school/church mission and Lutheran-Christian values.
- Staff Recruitment, Supervision & Development – Hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate all program staff; foster a culture of professionalism, discipleship, collaboration, and continuous growth.
- Program, Curriculum & Instructional Oversight – Design, implement, and oversee age-appropriate, academically sound, and faith-integrated curriculum and activities that support children’s spiritual, social-emotional, and developmental growth across both programs.
- Daily Operations & Administration – Oversee daily operations, schedules, staffing assignments, policies and procedures; coordinate facilities, supplies, and logistics in collaboration with school and church administration.
- Child Safety, Supervision & Compliance – Ensure a safe, nurturing environment by enforcing supervision standards, camper/student ratios, check-in/out procedures, emergency protocols, and staff training; maintain compliance with health, safety, and licensing standards.
- Family Partnership & Communication – Build strong, respectful relationships with families through clear, timely communication; address questions and concerns with grace and discernment; coordinate conferences, celebrations, newsletters, and engagement opportunities.
- Enrollment, Marketing & Community Engagement – Support enrollment growth and retention by collaborating with Admissions and Marketing; represent programs at events and outreach opportunities; build partnerships with churches, schools, businesses, and community organizations that support program visibility and ministry goals.
- Budget, Resources & Stewardship – Develop and monitor program budgets; manage purchasing and inventory; pursue grants, sponsorships, and partnerships; steward school/church resources responsibly to support program sustainability and growth.
- Evaluation, Reporting & Continuous Improvement – Conduct regular evaluations of staff, programs, and operations; gather feedback from families and stakeholders; update policies and training materials; provide data, reports, and recommendations to the Principal in alignment with strategic and accreditation goals.
Required Qualifications:
- A college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in education.
- Has at least 5 years of early childhood and/or primary grade teaching experience.
- Carry a valid Missouri teaching license or other state license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A graduate from one of the LCMS teacher training institutions (Concordias or colloquy).
- A master’s degree or higher, with an emphasis in early childhood education or administration and supervision.
